Why is your company called Earth Rated?
Earth Rated® is a lifestyle brand for dog lovers. We’re a company of pet owners who want to help other dog owners do their part. Dog waste is an environmental hazard that affects our every day life and can make dogs and people sick! We provide affordable and fun products to keep communities clean, so that all dogs (and their humans!) have safe spaces to run and play.
Are your products Cruelty-Free?
At Earth Rated®, we do not test any of our products on animals. As a team of pet owners and animal lovers, there is no need for animal testing to make our products, nor would we support this type of production model.
How does your Stain & Odor Remover work?
Our safe yet powerful bio-enzymatic formula naturally eliminates stains and odors caused by cats and dogs.
Our formula was created to specifically target pet messes such as:
What surfaces can the Stain & Odor Remover be used on?
Our bio-enzymatic formula is safe and non-toxic for people and pets! Having obtained the Seal of Approval from the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) to not leave any residue or stains after drying, we still recommend testing on a small area first. Recommended for use on:
and even laundry!
What is a “viable bacterial culture”?
The viable bacterial cultures in our bio-enzymatic formula are naturally occurring, “friendly” bacteria that produce enzymes which break down organic stains and odors.
Are your bags biodegradable?
We strive to ensure we continue to make a fun and affordable alternative to the traditional plastic grocery bag.
Our green-colored bags contain an EPI additive which helps them to break down, unlike traditional plastic bags. A similar technology is used in most dog waste bags labeled as “biodegradable” however, due to the updated U.S. Federal Trade Commission regulations, as applied to our industry regarding biodegradable labeling standards, we are unaware of any bag manufacturer that meets the requirements for biodegradable dog waste bags that ensure degradation in a landfill environment within the one year time frame required by the FTC.
As an alternative to our green-colored bags, we offer our white-colored, certified compostable bags that are approved by The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI). These bags are vegetable starch-based, unscented, and meet the ASTM D6400 and EN13432 guidelines. Waste bags that contain animal waste typically cannot be composted in many municipal facilities and we suggest to verify with your municipality for details.
Do you have an unscented version?
Our entire collection of various formats is available in an unscented option - look for the blue color-coded packaging in a store near you!

How is the Stain & Odor Remover scent formulated?
Our Stain & Odor Remover lavender-scent is made from a proprietary blend of ingredients that meet the International Fragrance Association (IRFA) standards.
We also offer an unscented option for our customers that may have scent sensitivities!
What is the significance of the CRI Seal of Approval?
Earth Rated® has earned the Seal of Approval for our Stain & Odor Remover from the Carpet and Rug Institute, signifying that it effectively removes even the most difficult stains and odors without any damage to carpet.
What are the active ingredients in the Stain & Odor Remover?
The primary ingredients are water, bacterial cultures and fragrance (for our scented version). To prolong the shelf life, there are also trace amounts of citric acid and sodium hydroxide. Our formula has a higher concentration of living bacteria, resulting in a stronger solution that breaks down organic waste.
What is your box packaging made from?
All of our packaging for our bag line is made from recycled materials, and we use recycled paper cores for the rolls instead of plastic ones. In addition, our packaging and cores can be recycled after use.
Why do you have plastic windows on your packaging?
We offer our bags in a variety of different formats, and the recyclable plastic window on the packaging of some of these formats allows customers to see what they're buying without having to open the package in the store. It also helps to keep the scent from dissipating too quickly before purchase!
Where does the lavender scent for your bags come from?
The scent used in our bags is sourced from natural essential oils derived from various fruits, plants and falls within Class 1 certification from The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) due to it making up less than 1% of our bag ingredient panel.
Do you offer any larger bags for bigger messes?
While our standard bags are extra-long and extra-strong, we recognize that some dogs don't give us a choice in requiring an even larger format! We offer an XL version of our bags exclusively online, available here.
Our handle bags also open extra wide to clean up bigger messes, and they can readily accommodate kitty litter and litter scoops. In addition, the ease of tying and untying these bags makes them ideal for multi-dog households with multiple poops!
How should your bags be stored?
We don’t want you getting poop on your hands, so here are some tips to avoid this!
- Do not store your bags in direct sunlight or humid places.
- Do not keep bags for more than 1 year from the time of purchase.
- If purchasing many boxes at one time, please ensure to use the oldest boxes / bags first.
How should I dispose of my bag? Are your bags flushable?
Our infographic does a great job at explaining how to be a responsible dog owner and why picking up after our pets is important. All bags containing poop should be disposed of in trash bins, not flushed or left on the ground. Contrary to popular belief, a good rainfall doesn’t make dog poop just disappear. It’s washed into storm drains with the rest of the rainwater, which unlike water in the sewer system, isn’t treated before being released into our lakes, streams and rivers.
Can you mark the last bag so I know when the roll is going to end?
We are always looking for ways to make our bags more convenient and are currently looking into how we can make this happen, while still offering a high-quality and affordable product!
I am having trouble opening the bags, why is this?
Dry fingertips can sometimes make it harder to pull the bag open, especially in colder temperatures. We want to ensure our bags make picking up after pets as easy as possible. Should you have trouble opening them we suggest pinching the top of the bag to separate the sides, or perhaps try our handle bags here with a wider opening.
Is the dispenser recyclable?
Our goal is to offer a durable dispenser that customers can refill as needed. Should the time come when you need to say goodbye, please feel free to add it to your recycling bin. To verify whether recycling facilities accepting #5 plastics are available in your area, please click here. In the event that they are not, please contact us to return the dispenser to us for recycling.
Where are your bags manufactured?
Our present manufacturing process is based in China. Our factory abides by strict quality control guidelines and we have a great team of people that oversee every part of our production and ensure a high level of quality control!
