Creating a world where no shelter animal goes unseen
In 2018, we made a donation to support HeARTs Speak, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping rescue groups give their animals greater visibility – for a higher chance of adoption. HeARTS Speak used our donation to purchase 8 used camera lenses for their Perfect Exposure Project and we also sent along a bunch of cozy blankets and Earth Rated supplies!
What’s the Perfect Exposure Project?
Run by HeARTs Speak, Perfect Exposure Project (PEP) provides rescue groups with hands-on marketing workshops. PEPs including two days of training, one workshop focused exclusively on shelter photography, and another focused on bio writing, social media, and connecting with the community in new and unique ways.
By the end of the workshop, all equipment is donated to the host rescue – including cameras, backdrops and studio light kits. A dream come true for many of these hard-working groups.
Why it’s so important to Earth Rated
Our team members have adopted several amazing dogs from shelters, so we know how awesome rescue animals are. As a pet brand, we also understand the importance of photography and the impact a good photo can have on the future of a dog and whether they find their perfect home.
The impact of Perfect Exposure Project in 2018
- Workshops in 7 different cities/areas
- 14 host rescues
- Close to 350 staff and volunteers received hands-on training
- 156,850 animals will benefit from the images in 2019

HeARTs Speak has some great opportunities for artistic dog-people to get involved. Their Artists Helping Animals program includes a network of nearly 600 professional artists who provide their services pro bono to shelters and rescues, and they’re always welcoming new members.
For business owners, brand managers, and anyone who uses stock imagery, one way to support the organization's to check out Images with HeART, a stock imagery library featuring the work of their artist community.
If you volunteer for rescue group in the USA and you’d like to participate in a PEP, check out their website for locations nearest you. They also welcome new participants interested in volunteering with their local organizations.
